Notice of Street Renaming

At their regular meeting on Monday, January 16th, City Council passed a bylaw to:

  • rename streets in the north end of Melfort to eliminate the duplication of street names on the south side.
  • rename Saskatchewan Avenue, including Highway 3 west and Highway 6 south, to "Saskatchewan Drive" to link together and brand the highway commercial district.

LEISURE SERVICES

Leisure Services plays a vital and key role in the City of Melfort. It not only enhances the quality of life of our citizens but also serves to attract new citizens and visitors to our community.

The Department consists of a Recreation & Facilities Manager who is responsible for the overall management and operation of all City Facilities. These include the parks, green spaces and the Northern Lights Palace, as well as all other City-owned facilities. Within the Northern Lights Palace the Aquatic Manager oversees all pool operations including maintenance, personnel management and program planning and evaluation.

The City of Melfort is responsible for a number of programs including the Summer Playground Program, the Adult Co-ed Recreational Volleyball Program, Noon Hour Hockey and the Northern Lights Palace Walking Program. The Leisure Services Department is also responsible for the Mosquito Control program.

The cultural and heritage interests of the City of Melfort are overseen by the Museum Curator/Cultural Coordinator. This individual works with a volunteer board to manage the operations of the Melfort & District Museum in addition to serving as the facilitator for the cultural community.
